The Holy Spirit Has a Sense of Humor

The Holy Spirit cleared her throat to get my attention, and asked me why I wasn’t applying the insite she had imparted to me. I was pondering the passage in Ephesians chapter 6 in preparation for a home group we’re leading for the church we attend. Continue reading

Reading the Bible “In the Spirit”

After more than thirty years of listening to many preachers, one year of Biblical Studies, years of study on my own, and more important, many, many years of a life journey with God – all three of him! – the Bible is coming alive with fresh meaning and excitement! So, if you feel that your Bible reading leaves you kind of feeling lukewarm, you’re not alone, but I think you’ll be encouraged. There’s a “trick” to it. Continue reading

Wrapped in the Arms of Jesus

“The Gospel is not the news that you can receive Jesus into your life, The Gospel is the news that God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit has come and He has received you into His life.” (Baxter Kruger)
Receiving salvation is not praying a prayer, it’s not doing good deeds, it is believing what He has done. Continue reading

Intertwined With God – The Woman at the Well

Let’s say that you’re in the desert.  There are only two possible outcomes: life or death.  As you journey, you’re using up your supply of water.   In the distance, someone points out an oasis.  But you are convinced that it is a mirage, a figment of their imagination, too good to be true, and you walk right by it. The Cross: Restoring Humanity to Factory Settings

Jesus came to reset us to our “factory settings”. The Incarnation can be seen in this modern digital parable of restoration – just a contemporary way of seeing the coming of a New Earth as a fulfillment of the garden of Eden. Continue reading

In terms of institutions, whatever is illegitimate, whatever is abusive, whatever is unjust or unwise shall be torn down, and what is good and wise shall take its place.

The Eye of the Hurricane

The eye of the hurricane is a place of calm in the midst of turmoil. Where do we find that “place” of peace in life’s unrelenting storms? The eye is a reflection in our time-space continuum of something much more powerful in the realm of the spirit. Continue reading

Life Is like a Hurricane

What is a successful life? Will we ever regret not having made more money or garnered more fame? Why is life like a series of storms with just a few short days of serene skies? What if the only thing that counts is our response to adversity and suffering? Continue reading

“God Is Love” (1 John 4:6)

How can a “monolithic” God be love? I don’t think he can. Because love must have an object, a lover needs another lover. Thus, if John is right, that God is love, it makes sense that God is “on essence, … Continue reading

How Is Life Like Texas Hold ’em?

How is life like Texas Hold ‘Em?  First, we’re dealt two cards.  In life, before we can play, we get our genetic heritage (nature), and our environmental surroundings and formative experiences (nurture).  In the game, the dealer now flips up … Continue reading
